The Scottsboro Depot Museum is a totally volunteer effort supported by the Jackson County Historical Society. If you would like to contribute to this effort, you might do one of the following:
- Become a member. The annual membership fee of $25 is a small amount to spend out of your pocket, but goes a long way towards covering regular expenses incurred by the museum. Lifetime memberships are also available for $100.
- Be a tour guide. Help us keep the museum open to the public by volunteering as a guide. With more people, we can extend the hours we are open.
- Former employee plaques. Do you have an ancestor that worked for the railroad? Honor them by purchasing a brass plaque for $50 with their name and service dates.
- Donate railroad items. Memorabilia from the railroads needs to be preserved for future generations. Don’t let items waste away in your attic or basement.
- Join a work crew. Whether on the HO scale layouts, or prototype equipment, volunteers are needed to keep these artifacts in top shape. Volunteer to help out!
And of course, tax deductable donations of any amount are always appreciated!
Support the Scottsboro Depot Museum and other historical preservation and restoration effort by joining the Jackson County Historical Association (JCHA). Organized in DATE, the group meets monthly
and is currently chaired by Kelly Goodowens. The cost of the annual membership is XX and is
tax deductable. Mail your check to:
JCHA
Post Office Box 1494
Scottsboro, AL 35769
Membership includes a subscription to the Jackson County Chronices, an invaluable
resource for Jackson County genealogy researchers and historians. Limited back issues are available from editor Ann B. Chambless, and bound volumes of all issues are available in the genealogy section
of the Scottsboro Public Library.
The JCHA has spearheaded key preservation efforts in the county including the Scottsboro/Jackson
Heritage Center, the Bandstand renovation, and the Scottsboro Depot Museum.
To finance work on the bandstand and other projects, the JCHA is still selling memorial bricks
to complete the walkway. The 4 x 8 inch brick is $50.00, and the 8 x 8 inch brick is $100.00. You may include 3 engraved lines with 18 characters per line. Spaces count as characters just like letters. A form will be mailed to anyone who is interested in procuring a brick to honor a family member or friend or to memorialize an ancestor.
